Cathay Life grants lounge access after 60-minute delays

Nearly 40,000 Taiwanese travellers faced cancellations or lengthy waits in the first half of 2026.

Cathay Life has launched a new perk for travel insurance policyholders in Taiwan, offering complimentary airport lounge access in the event of flight delays or cancellations.

Under a new partnership with Collinson International, the owner of Priority Pass, policyholders who buy overseas travel insurance online with premiums of NT$1,000 or more will gain access to Collinson’s SmartDelay service.

The cover applies to up to two flights on a round trip.

To qualify, policyholders must use a provided code to pre-register their flights online at least 24 hours before scheduled departure. If a flight is cancelled or delayed by more than 60 minutes, the insurer automatically issues a digital voucher.

This gives the traveller and up to three companions single-use access to a global network of over 1,800 airport lounges and alternative services, such as spas, sleep pods, and dining. The voucher remains valid for three months and requires no additional claim forms.

The insurance feature addresses rising air travel delays across the region.

In the first half of 2026, nearly 40,000 travellers in Taiwan faced flight cancellations or delays exceeding one hour, with almost 60% waiting between one and two hours.

Lin Chao-ting, President at Cathay Life, said the collaboration aims to provide modern protection beyond traditional insurance cover during periods of travel uncertainty.

Ian Lee, Managing Director for North Asia at Collinson International, added that growing passenger volumes and airspace constraints have increased demand for disruption support services.
